Football Recap: James Neville Key Part of Team Effort in Seminoles Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Callaway, Westside was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Pike County Pirates by a score of 28-16. The victory continues a trend for the Seminoles in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won six in a row.

Westside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from James Neville, who rushed for 61 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 112 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards Neville has posted since back in August. Jaiden Stephens was another key player, rushing for 89 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Westside was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Westside's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kenneth Hogges, Anthony Horton, and Carmel Thomas, who each picked up one sack apiece. Hogges was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles (2.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.

Westside's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Pike County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-5.

Westside and Pike County will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Seminoles see the field they'll take on Rutland at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. As for Pike County, their break will end when they face Morgan County at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
