The Wiggins Tigers lost against the Merino Rams back in March of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Wiggins took a hard 52-34 fall against Merino. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wiggins has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Wiggins lost, one person who can't be blamed is Riley Hunt. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Hunt hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Taelynn Epple, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Wiggins' defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-5. As for Merino, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Wiggins will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Prairie at 5:30 a.m. Prairie will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Merino won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Genoa-Hugo/Karval at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Merino is ranked fourth).
