The Miller Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Grove City Christian, falling 40-12. While losing is never fun, Miller can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 755th, while Grove City Christian is ranked 377th).
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Miller struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Grove City Christian racked up nine assists.
Grove City Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aubrey Smith out in front who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Ava Garringer was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six steals.
Miller bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.8 points per game. As for Grove City Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Miller's road trip will continue as they head out to face Clay at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Clay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Monday. Grove City Christian will finish 2023 at home by hosting Horizon Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th.
