Basketball Recap: Springville Takes a Loss

Springville lost against Salem Hills back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Springville Red Devils fell just short of the Salem Hills Skyhawks by a score of 52-50. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Skyhawks are ranked sixth).

Despite the loss, Springville still got an impressive performance from Millie Thompson, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 19 points. That's the most points Thompson has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Johnson, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Salem Hills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chenielle Nye, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. Another player making a difference was Brooke Warren, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Springville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Salem Hills, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-3.

Springville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-54 win against Maple Mountain on the 4th. As for Salem Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-30 victory against Spanish Fork on the 4th.
