Pewaukee is 2-8 against Wisconsin Lutheran since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Pewaukee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Pewaukee came up short against Greendale and fell 14-9.
Hailey Hutchens made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Kennedy Tisdale also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin Lutheran put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against New Berlin Eisenhower as they made off with an 8-1 victory. Considering the Vikings have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Vitangcol was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Vitangcol was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Grudzielanek, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Haag, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Wisconsin Lutheran's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Pewaukee, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.
Both Pewaukee and Wisconsin Lutheran just can't seem to miss. The Pirates have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Wisconsin Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 1.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pewaukee suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Wisconsin Lutheran when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
