The Marco Island Academy Rays fought the good fight in their overtime game against Everglades City on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 77-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of the. Marco Island Academy just can't catch a break and has now endured four losses in a row.
Nick Sadler and John Lewis certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Sadler scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Lewis scored 26 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for Lewis. Jordan Rodden was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 rebounds and five assists.
Even though they lost, Marco Island Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Marco Island Academy now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Everglades City, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marco Island Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Donahue Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on December 13th. Donahue Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Marco Island Academy likes a good challenge. As for Everglades City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Babcock at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
