The Newton HomeSchool Panthers's 12-5 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 56-44 to Wichita HomeSchool on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Newton HomeSchool can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Wichita HomeSchool is ranked 102nd).
Despite the loss, Newton HomeSchool still got an impressive performance from Jaquale Schumm, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 68.2% of Newton HomeSchool's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Mayhew, who scored four points along with five steals.
Newton HomeSchool bumped their record down to 2-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Wichita HomeSchool, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton HomeSchool's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Goessel at 7:15 p.m. on January 19th. Wichita HomeSchool will take on St. Mary's Academy at TBD on Thursday.
