The Golden Demons pushed their score all the way to 56 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Evergreen. It was the first time this season that Golden let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Golden lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shad Garnett. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Jacob Maestas was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Evergreen was led to victory by Drew Yager and Lukas McCanna. Yager scored 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while McCanna scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. McCanna continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Beeson, who scored eight points.
Golden's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4. As for Evergreen, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Golden will face off against Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lutheran will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak. Evergreen will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Pomona at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th.
