The Waukegan Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 49-39 to Niles West. Waukegan has struggled against Niles West recently, as their match on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Aaliaya Cade and Madison Johnson certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Cade scored 15 points, while Johnson scored 15 points. That was a full 38.5% of Waukegan's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Evelyn Petty was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Waukegan's defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.5 points per game. As for Niles West, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waukegan will take on Libertyville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Libertyville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Waukegan in Illinois (Libertyville is ranked 30th, while Waukegan is ranked 435th). As for Niles West, Niles West and Glenbrook North will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Glenbrook North is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
