AAAAAA Region 7 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Norcross extended the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 7 this week by beating Peachtree Ridge, 36-3. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Duluth led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on Habersham Central. Thad Bell threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Joseph Wilber put up the best numbers through the air as Norcross defeated the Lions. He finished with a total of 12 completions for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Wilber's favorite target this week was Trey Smith, who caught three passes for 88 yards.
Jordan Dooley was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 154 yards on 14 carries as the Wildcats bested Collins Hill. Teammate Myles Campbell added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.
Scott was the best wideout in AAAAAA Region 7 this week as the Bulldogs beat the Screaming Eagles. Scott tallied three receptions for 98 yards. Almonzo Brown helped North Gwinnett's passing attack out by catching five balls for 57 yards.
Michael Haynes provided a threat through the air and on the ground as North Gwinnett topped Collins Hill. He completed 15 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 70 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Haynes of the Bulldogs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1586. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. On the ground, Mill Creek's Jacorey Lewis has rushed for 1307 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Clinton Lynch. The Norcross star has 25 catches for 541 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when North Gwinnett takes on Mountain View. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in second, while the Bears are in seventh.
Duluth made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,185 from 3,490. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 56-14 victory over the Raiders last week.
