Basketball Recap: Alex Helton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Forestview over Huss

Forestview lost against Huss back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Forestview Jaguars lost 69-46 to the Huss Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Huskies are ranked 64th).

Forestview lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alex Helton, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points. The game was Helton's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hampton West, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Huss got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaleel Smith out in front who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points along with seven steals and five boards. Smith is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points and eight assists.

Forestview has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Huss, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Forestview didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-70 loss against Crest on the 28th. As for Huss, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 92-55 victory against North Gaston on the 28th.
