Wilsonville is on a 15-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Thurston is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wilsonville Wildcats will take on the Thurston Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilsonville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 348 points over their last seven matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wilsonville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Crater, posting a 42-7 win at home. The result was nothing new for Wilsonville, who have now won eight matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
Wilsonville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Mark Wiepert, who picked up 215 receiving yards and four touchdowns, and Kallen Gutridge, who threw for 353 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 14.1 yards per attempt. Gutridge has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maverick Summers, who picked up 88 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Thurston was able to grind out a solid victory over Dallas on Friday, taking the game 37-24.
Walker Bonar and Noah Blair were among the main playmakers for Thurston as the former picked up 179 receiving yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns while completing 74.3% of his passes. Bonar's longest reception was for an incredible 95 yards.
Their wins bumped Wilsonville to 9-1 and Thurston to 8-2.
Everything came up roses for Wilsonville against Thurston in their previous matchup back in September as the squad secured a 44-15 win. Will Wilsonville repeat their success, or does Thurston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
