Not much got past Sam Cozart, who gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep High Point Christian Academy off the board. Cozart also tossed no walks, which is notable because Wesleyan Christian Academy is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Thompson Holloway, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Cole Bowman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, Regis Jesuit faced Mullen in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Raiders took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.
Regis Jesuit also got a good showing from Ryan Neumann, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Nick Wiley was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season. Chase Massey was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Wesleyan Christian Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Regis Jesuit, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal.
