The Groton Tigers will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Great Plains Lutheran Panthers at 3:15 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Groton comes in on three and Great Plains Lutheran on eight.
Groton posted their closest win yet this season on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Milbank out 42-39.
Meanwhile, Great Plains Lutheran can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Waverly/South Shore 46-10 on the road. Given Great Plains Lutheran's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Waverly/South Shore is ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Great Plains Lutheran got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Katherine Prahl out in front who scored eight points along with six assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Esta Cameron, who scored 15 points.
Groton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. As for Great Plains Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Groton strolled past Great Plains Lutheran in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a score of 45-29. Does Groton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Great Plains Lutheran turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
