Baseball Recap: Firelands Has No Trouble Against Black River

Firelands hadn't beaten Black River on the road since April 16, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Falcons blew past the Pirates 20-9. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Firelands let Daniel Kothe and Maxx Bray run wild. Kothe got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple, while Bray got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Kothe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luke Radanovich, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Firelands was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Firelands is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Black River, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Firelands will take on Midview at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Black River, they will challenge Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
