Hanover Central and Hobart are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Brickies at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hanover Central is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Saturday, Hanover Central beat Boone Grove 4-1.
The team relied heavily on Caiden Verrett, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Rutherford, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hobart). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-16 victory over Morgan Township on Friday. The Brickies haven't had any issues with the Cherokees recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Zach Terek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Donio Pimentel and Connor Stafford did most of the damage at the plate: Pimentel went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Stafford scored three runs while going 4-for-4. What's more, Stafford posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Connor Kenjic also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Hobart kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They got six more hits than Morgan Township's also-impressive total of 14.
Hobart pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hanover Central, their record now sits at 5-0.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hanover Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Hobart struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hanover Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Hobart in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Brickies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
