Basketball Recap: Langtree Charter Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jerel Brawley and Anthony Nesbit

Langtree Charter Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 75-72 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mountain Island Charter Raptors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Lions have suffered since November 6, 2023.

Despite the defeat, Langtree Charter Academy had strong showings from Anthony Nesbit, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, and Jerel Brawley, who posted 17 points. The dominant performance gave Nesbit a new career-high in boards. Aiden Gelpke was another key player, putting up ten points.

Mountain Island Charter found their leader in sophomore Christan Jones, who went 18 of 30 en route to 41 points and three steals. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Mountain Island Charter's points. Another player making a difference was Tavien Julius, who scored four points along with 13 assists and five steals.

Langtree Charter Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Mountain Island Charter, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-11.

Langtree Charter Academy and Mountain Island Charter could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Langtree Charter Academy (ranked 450th) will meet Pine Lake Prep (ranked 80th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Langtree Charter Academy has given up an average of 57.8 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, Mountain Island Charter will face off against Corvian Community at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 260 places (369 vs. 109).
