The Germantown Clippers will head out on the road to square off against the Cairo-Durham Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Germantown hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
On Monday, Germantown came up short against Catskill and fell 6-1.
Germantown saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Orozco, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. Caleb Hildenbrand also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Cairo-Durham made easy work of Webutuck on Tuesday and carried off a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Brody Helmedach looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
At the plate, Cairo-Durham got a massive performance out of Jake Young, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Young a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Walz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cairo-Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cairo-Durham pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Germantown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Germantown suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Cairo-Durham in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Clippers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
