Father McGivney Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Christ Our Rock Lutheran 17-2. The Griffins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 26 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Father McGivney Catholic got a massive performance out of Drew Kleinheider, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Kleinheider has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ben Sink, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Father McGivney Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Calhoun was able to grind out a solid win over Gibault Catholic on Wednesday, taking the game 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Jack Goode spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Calhoun let Jack Zipprich and Easton Wallendorf run wild. Zipprich went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Wallendorf got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Wallendorf, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Calhoun's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Father McGivney Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 35-3.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Father McGivney Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Calhoun struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
