Atherton has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Genesee Wolves at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Atherton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Atherton came up short against the Phoenix and fell 30-20.
Meanwhile, Genesee had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They put the hurt on Bridgeport with a sharp 73-52 victory. Genesee's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Averie Zinn was her usual excellent self, scoring 50 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Genesee's points.
Atherton's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.6 points per game. As for Genesee, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Atherton was taken down by the Wolves 60-32 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Zinn, who almost dropped a double-double on 36 points and nine steals. Now that Atherton knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
