The Beaver Beavers will square off against the Kanab Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Beaver comes in on eight and Kanab on 11.
Beaver is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Enterprise a 3-0 shutout.
Beaver's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Robinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Kanab got the win against Grand County on Thursday by a conclusive 10-4. Considering the Cowboys have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Walker Baird was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Baird was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kash Kabonic was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Hayden Gubler, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Kanab always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grand County only posted an OBP of .241.
Beaver's record now sits at 22-3. As for Kanab, their record is now 19-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Beaver has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kanab struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Beaver took their victory against Kanab in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 10-2 score. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
