Muir hasn't had much luck against Burbank recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m. Muir is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Muir didn't have quite enough to beat Arcadia and fell 5-4.
Jazmin Jaquez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Alyssa Perez and Gianna (GiGi) Butler stepped up to the plate in a big way. Perez went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Butler went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was Perez's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burbank). They were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over Pasadena on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what Burbank needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Like Muir, Burbank also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddison Kellogg. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Kellogg was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Kassandra Davila was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Chloe Updike was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs.
Burbank always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .944. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Burbank pushed their record up to 6-11-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Muir, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Muir couldn't quite finish off Burbank when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
