Basketball Game Preview: McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers vs. Metter Tigers

The McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers and the Metter Tigers will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

McIntosh County Academy will head into Friday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 31-point drubbing they dealt Portal on Friday. McIntosh County Academy claimed a resounding 53-22 victory over Portal.

McIntosh County Academy can attribute much of their success to Zione Bland, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points and six steals. Bland has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jkaiya Moore, who posted five points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals.

Meanwhile, Metter won against Montgomery County two weeks ago with 64 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Metter couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 64-28 blowout they got against Claxton. That looming 64-28 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Metter yet this season.

Metter's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for McIntosh County Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.

McIntosh County Academy came up short against Metter in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, falling 45-39. Can McIntosh County Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
