The Wood County Christian Wildcat's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Cross Lanes Christian 74-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Wood County Christian has suffered yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cross Lanes Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashton Gute, who scored 27 points along with five assists and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gute has scored at least a third of Cross Lanes Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Mulanax, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Wood County Christian bumped their record down to 2-7 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Cross Lanes Christian, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Wood County Christian's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Paden City at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Paden City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 845th, while Wood County Christian is ranked 121st). Cross Lanes Christian will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Elk Valley Christian at 12:00 p.m. on January 11th. Elk Valley Christian is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
