Redwood is a perfect 3-0 against Monache since October of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rangers will look to defend their home field against the Marauders at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Redwood comes in on three and Monache on four.
Redwood's offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Friday, when they got past Porterville's usually-dominant defense. The Rangers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Panthers 42-40. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Rangers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Panthers are ranked 252nd).
Jimmie Burk had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 190 yards and three TDs on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Jairus Brooks, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Redwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 342 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 18 points in total. All came from Josgar Guerrero: he went 6-for-6 kicking field goals for 18 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monache). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat El Diamante 49-6. The Marauders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 34 points or more this season.
Monache found their leader in sophomore Cooper Baxter, who rushed for 247 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 14.5 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Baxter is now averaging an impressive 117.4 rushing yards per game. Gryphen Speck made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Monache didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tyson Harrington and Speck. Speck got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Redwood's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Monache, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Redwood has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 218.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Monache struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 201.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Redwood's way against Monache in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Redwood made off with a 28-6 win. Do the Rangers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marauders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
