After two games on the road, Southside is heading back home. They will take on the Boaz Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Southside strolled past Etowah with points to spare, taking the game 45-27. Given Southside's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Etowah is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mason Teague was a one-man wrecking crew for Southside as he rushed for 241 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Teague was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bryan, who threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes.
Meanwhile, Boaz waltzed into Friday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 48-14 victory over Lee. The result was nothing new for Boaz, who have now won three matches by 24 points or more so far this season.
Boaz's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Pierce led the charge by rushing for 41 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 108 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Tristan Childers, who rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Southside to 8-2 and Boaz to 5-5.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Southside has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 375 total yards per game. However, it's not like Boaz struggles in that department as they've been even better at 378.5 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Southside came out on top in a nail-biter against Boaz in their previous meeting back in September, sneaking past 48-45. Does Southside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boaz turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
