The Thorsby Rebels are taking a road trip to square off against the Shelby County Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Thorsby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Thorsby's last matchup with Childersburg could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Friday. The Rebels lost 11-3 to the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rebels have suffered since March 21, 2024.
Thorsby saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Reeser, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run. Brinley Giambrone was another, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Shelby County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Yellow Jackets.
Danslen Connell (2029) was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Connell (2029) was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaydence Connell (2026), who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Chaisson (2026), who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Shelby County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Shelby County's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Thorsby, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-4-1.
Both Thorsby and Shelby County just can't seem to miss. The Rebels have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Shelby County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Thorsby couldn't quite get it done against Shelby County in their previous matchup on Thursday as they fell 16-11. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
