The Chaparral Wolverines will challenge the Castle View Sabercats at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Chaparral is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Ponderosa, who was ranked 18th at the time (Chaparral was ranked 17th). The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Mustangs on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kayne Morris tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Adams, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Madden Kretzer was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Castle View never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Highlands Ranch on Monday. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 10-2 win. The contest marked the Sabercats' most dominant victory of the season.
Cole Cates made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Castle View is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Cates was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Castle View got a great performance from Paxton Mapes as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Breck Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Feldhake, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Castle View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Castle View, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chaparral has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Castle View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chaparral might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Castle View in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
