Even though the Bertrand Vikings scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, the Elm Creek Buffaloes still came out on top. Elm Creek secured a 61-56 W over Bertrand. Given Elm Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Bertrand is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elm Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kade Sindt led the charge by scoring 21 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. That's the first time this season that Sindt scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Quin Oberg, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Bertrand still got an impressive performance from Marcus Hernandez, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Dawson Newcomb was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
The win got Elm Creek back to even at 3-3. As for Bertrand, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Elm Creek won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Minden at 6:15 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Minden focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. Bertrand will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Arcadia/Loup City at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. Arcadia/Loup City is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
