Narraguagus hasn't had much luck against Washington Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Knights will take on the Raiders at 3:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Narraguagus comes in on nine and Washington Academy on five.
On Wednesday, Narraguagus beat Machias 9-4.
Brody Robertson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Manny Absalom and Ryder Fenton did most of the damage at the plate: Absalom got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Fenton went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Miles Worcester was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Narraguagus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Machias only posted a batting average of .200.
Washington Academy came out on top against George Stevens Academy on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Raiders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Raiders have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Narraguagus, Washington Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Cates. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Cates a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colby Moholland, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was James Welch, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Washington Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Narraguagus, their record now sits at 9-0.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Narraguagus has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Washington Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .526. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Narraguagus might still be hurting after the 16-3 defeat they got from Washington Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
