Smith Vo-Tech is 9-1 against Pathfinder RVT since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Vikings will face off against the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. Smith Vo-Tech's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Pathfinder RVT's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Smith Vo-Tech managed to slip by Westfield Technical Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Vikings lost 10-2 to the Tigers on Friday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Pathfinder RVT waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brayden Mega and Grayson Griswold made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Mega tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Griswold pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mega has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Mega got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Griswold went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That double marked the first that Mega has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emerson Boronski, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Tim Russell, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Pathfinder RVT always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmer only posted an OBP of .375.
Pathfinder RVT pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Smith Vo-Tech, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-2.
Smith Vo-Tech suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Pathfinder RVT in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
