Softball Recap: Westwood Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Westwood barely beat Medway the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 16-5 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Bridget Mulkeen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sasha Marino was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Westwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Westwood's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Medway, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Westwood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-0 win against Bellingham on the 30th. As for Medway, they have also already played their next game, a 16-2 victory against Ashland on the 30th.
