Havana Pagan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jadelyn Sherman, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Aria Davis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Polytechnic narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Leuzinger 4-2.
Amelia Shih made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
In other batting news, Brynn Connolly was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Carthan Connolly, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
La Salle pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Polytechnic, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. La Salle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. However, it's not like Polytechnic struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Salle came up short against Polytechnic when the teams last played back in April of 2018, falling 8-5. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
