The Jefferson-Morgan Rockets were the 54-47 winner over the California Trojans when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Jefferson-Morgan took a 51-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. Jefferson-Morgan has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Rockets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Huston Guesman, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Guesman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was John Woodward, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Jefferson-Morgan were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as California only racked up six assists.
California got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Monticelli out in front who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds and four steals. Monticelli is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Ziolecki, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Jefferson-Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for California, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-13.
Jefferson-Morgan will head out on the road to square off against the Pioneers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Pennsylvania (West Greene is ranked 544th, while the Rockets are ranked 524th). As for California, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Raiders at 1:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Waynesburg Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
