The Oregon City Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Sherwood Bowmen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Oregon City has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Sherwood will arrive with nine straight victories.
Last Friday, Oregon City faced West Linn in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Oregon City was outmatched by West Linn on the road and fell 52-13.
Meanwhile, Sherwood stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Liberty 57-7 on the road. Given Sherwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Liberty is ranked 27th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sherwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Waletich led the charge by rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown. Waletich was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaten Fried, who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
West Linn's victory bumped their season record to 9-0 while Oregon City's loss dropped theirs to 5-4.
