The Wellington Eagles came into Wednesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 32-27 W over Lyons on Wednesday. The victory was just what Wellington needed coming off of a 64-23 defeat in their prior match.
Wellington found their leader in underclassman Ava Essay, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Essay is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookelyn Jones, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Wellington's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Lyons, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Wellington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-21 defeat vs. Strasburg on the 9th. Lyons has also already played their next contest, a 58-21 loss against Gilpin County on the 9th.
