The Pope John Paul II Knights waltzed into their contest Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 67-48 win over Douglass. Given Pope John Paul II's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked seventh in Tennessee, while Douglass is ranked 103rd in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pope John Paul II got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Fred Bailey out in front who scored 19 points along with six assists. The game was Bailey's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Trey Pearson, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Pope John Paul II's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Douglass, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pope John Paul II's road trip will continue as they head out to face Montgomery Bell Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Douglass will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th.
