Basketball Recap: Holly Springs Takes a Loss

Holly Springs lost against Apex Friendship back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Holly Springs Golden Hawks took a 65-47 bruising from the Apex Friendship Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Golden Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Patriots are ranked 56th).

Despite the loss, Holly Springs still got an impressive performance from Amy Lissow, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. That's the most blocks Lissow has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Thomas, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Holly Springs was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 4.1.

Jasmine Nivar continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Apex Friendship, almost dropping a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Nivar has scored at least a third of Apex Friendship's points. Jordan Rooney was another key player, putting up nine points and five steals.

Holly Springs has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Apex Friendship, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Holly Springs will head out on the road to challenge Green Hope at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Green Hope's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Apex Friendship, they will take on Middle Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Apex Friendship's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while Middle Creek has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
