Sadly, the Sheridan Rams are still looking for their first win of the season after 15 games. They took a 52-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arrupe Jesuit on Monday. Sheridan has not had much luck with Arrupe Jesuit recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Loss or not, Sheridan got some senior leadership from Will Brent and Emilio Cruz. Brent dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Cruz. scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Brent is crushing the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Garcia, who scored three points.
Arrupe Jesuit found their leader in underclassman Ari Cowans, who scored 27 points along with two steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Cowans has scored at least a third of Arrupe Jesuit's points. Oscar Padilla was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 16 rebounds and four steals.
Arrupe Jesuit's lineup was just a bit different on Monday as Bryan Astudillo-Pozos got a bit more time on the court (20 vs. his season average of 8.5). Astudillo-Pozos made the most of the opportunity, scoring no points along with six rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Sheridan dropped their record down to 0-15 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Arrupe Jesuit, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sheridan will challenge DSST: Montview at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sheridan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 344th, while DSST: Montview is ranked 52nd). As for Arrupe Jesuit, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bruce Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Arrupe Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
