The Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They claimed a resounding 34-7 victory over Alvarado on the road. Given Stephenville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Alvarado is ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stephenville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Gafford, who threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Tristian Gentry also helped out with an impressive 161 receiving yards.
Stephenville's victory was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-1 Brownwood and 8-2 Rider (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.2% over those games). As for Alvarado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.
Stephenville will look to defend their home field on Friday against La Vega at 7:30 p.m. La Vega has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 154 points over their last three games. As for Alvarado, they will head out on the road to face off against Life Waxahachie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Life Waxahachie is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
