For the first time this season, Brenham will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Waco Lions will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brenham has five straight wins, Waco has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Brenham had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 42-point drubbing they dealt Gilmer last Friday. The Cubs blew past the Buckeyes 49-7. That 42 point margin sets a new team best for the Cubs this season.

Xyran Upshaw was his usual excellent self, rushing for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 160 yards and two TDs. Chris Guidry was in the mix as well, providing Brenham with two scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Brenham was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 314 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Another reason for the win was Brenham's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jase Mueller with two. Jrius Booker was another major factor on D, making 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Waco challenged San Angelo Central last Friday. The Lions were beaten by the Bobcats 48-6. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 793rd, while the Bobcats are ranked 259th).
Brenham will have to contain ZAY'DRIAN JOHNSON as he made an impact in Waco's last game. He picked up 148 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Waco's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Brenham, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Everything came up roses for Brenham against Waco in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 55-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cubs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
