This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Finn Schultz and Oliver Fifield. Schultz rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries while Fifield rushed for 42 yards and a pair of scores. Those 90 rushing yards gave Schultz a new career-high.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Manteo proved: they limited Hobgood Charter to a paltry 1.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Schultz stood above the rest. He rushed for 90 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. Manteo's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.
Manteo's defense didn't let Luke Lanier., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Jerry Frazier was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 36 points the game before, Norfolk Christian was a bit more limited in their matchup two weeks ago. They received a blow as they fell 30-12 to First Flight. The loss was the Ambassadors' first of the season.
Despite the defeat, Norfolk Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Evan Field rushed for 116 yards and one score. Isiah Banks got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Having lost for the first time this season, Norfolk Christian fell to 3-1. As for Manteo, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-1.
Everything came up roses for Manteo against Norfolk Christian in their previous matchup back in August of 2024, as the team secured a 38-0 win. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Ambassadors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
