Verdugo Hills pushed their score all the way to 56 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Poly by a score of 59-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Verdugo Hills has suffered yet this season.
Alexander Martinez put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was William Gharabekyan, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Verdugo Hills were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poly only posted eight assists.
Meanwhile, Arleta can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Wednesday. They blew past Monroe, posting a 94-38 win on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Arleta has posted since November 16, 2023.
Verdugo Hills' loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Arleta, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.
Verdugo Hills was able to grind out a solid win over Arleta in their previous matchup on January 8th, winning 76-63. The rematch might be a little tougher for Verdugo Hills since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
