Derby took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars. For the Red Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 7-5 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2019.
Jayzair Barbera was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooklyn Fernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Derby will be playing in front of their home fans against Hillhouse at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, they will venture away from home to face off against Stamford at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
