After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Granby Memorial/Canton, The North Branford Thunderbirds were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Haddam-Killingworth by a score of 48-36. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Tommy Hansen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 283 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Hansen's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Sigel, who rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
North Branford's win was their third straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 4-1. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Haddam-Killingworth, Capital Prep/Achievement First, and Old Saybrook-Westbrook. As for Haddam-Killingworth, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Branford will square off against Valley Regional/Old Lyme at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Valley Regional/Old Lyme is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Haddam-Killingworth, they will head out on the road to face off against Cromwell/Portland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cromwell/Portland presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Haddam-Killingworth in Connecticut (Cromwell/Portland is ranked 44th, while Haddam-Killingworth is ranked 130th).
