Calvary Christian is 9-1 against Newport since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Cougars will host the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calvary Christian has three straight wins, Newport has 45 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Calvary Christian's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Gallatin County hitters got past them. The Cougars put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 17-10 victory on Friday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Luke Corbin made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and one unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going 5-for-6 with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Newport lost 19-4 to Dayton on Friday.
Calvary Christian's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Newport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-20.
Newport's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Calvary Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Calvary Christian keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Everything went Calvary Christian's way against Newport in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Calvary Christian made off with an 18-3 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
