Basketball Game Preview: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. North Pitt Panthers

SouthWest Edgecombe is on a five-game streak of home wins, while North Pitt is on a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars duke it out with the North Pitt Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. SouthWest Edgecombe knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully North Pitt likes a good challenge.

SouthWest Edgecombe's tournament run continued when they took on North Edgecombe on Saturday. SouthWest Edgecombe took their match with ease, bagging a 77-36 win over North Edgecombe. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 26 points or more this season.

SouthWest Edgecombe found their leader in sophomore A'Chonacey Mabry, who went 15 of 22 en route to 33 points and eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mabry has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Deniya Mayo, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 51-11, which was the final score in North Pitt's tilt against Concord Academy on Saturday. The contest marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

SouthWest Edgecombe's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for North Pitt, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

SouthWest Edgecombe was dealt a bruising 71-23 loss at the hands of North Pitt in their previous meeting back in February. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point SouthWest Edgecombe was down 52-8.
