WPIAL AAA Big Nine recap Oct. 30, 2012
Albert Gallatin moved up to 525 from 553 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AAA Big Nine. The Colonials climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Belle Vernon 35-0.
Thomas Jefferson extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating West Mifflin, 28-14. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Jaguars.
Corey Hunsberger was the best wideout in the league this week as Trinity beat Ringgold. Hunsberger racked up three receptions for 72 yards. Jared Deep helped Trinity's passing attack out by catching two balls for 27 yards.
Joe Carroll put up the best numbers through the air as Thomas Jefferson defeated the Titans. He finished with five completions for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Carroll's favorite target this week was Colton Booher, who caught one pass for 33 yards.
Patrick Frey was the most productive running back in WPIAL AAA Big Nine this week. He ran for 149 yards on 29 carries as the Hillers topped the Rams. Teammate Connor Durko added to the ground attack by rushing for 96 yards.
Bill Cherpak's team's Carroll and Zach Schademan have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Carroll has thrown for 1737 yards this season, while Schademan, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 45 catches for 918 yards. West Mifflin's James Wheeler leads the league in rushing yards with 1543.
Frey has rushed for 901 yards on 155 carries so far this year.
The Leopards took down Albert Gallatin 35-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
