The Kalida Wildcats will head out to take on the Continental Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kalida has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kalida fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Ottawa-Glandorf on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 16-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since April 21, 2025.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Continental, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over Holgate on Monday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Gracie Homier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Leah Searfoss was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Becca Sullivan, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Continental always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Continental pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Kalida, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Kalida suffered a grim 29-2 defeat to Continental in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
