Wenonah is 8-2 against Carver Birmingham since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dragons will take on the Rams at 5:30 p.m. Wenonah is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Wenonah came up short against Pleasant Grove on Monday, falling 20-7. While the Dragons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 6-2 in the first period.
Wenonah saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Micah White, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Korey Brown also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Carver Birmingham made easy work of Midfield on Monday and carried off a 14-4 win. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Dejalin Woodside made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Ezekiel Woodside was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Carver Birmingham: the team is 8-2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Scott, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Carver Birmingham and bumps their season record up to 15-12-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Wenonah, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wenonah has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Carver Birmingham struggles in that department as they've averaged .564. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wenonah might still be hurting after the 16-5 defeat they got from Carver Birmingham in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
